Resistance is the source of suffering
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
This is one of the most misunderstood teachings in all of mindfulness literature. It doesn't mean you should be indifferent to difficult things. It means that most suffering comes not from the difficult thing itself, but from our resistance to it.
Tolle explains it simply: "What you fight, you strengthen, and what you resist, persists."
The antidote isn't passive acceptance: it's total acknowledgment. Feel the frustration fully. Acknowledge the discomfort completely. When you stop fighting the present moment, its grip loosens.
This session, if thoughts arise about what you should be doing instead, don't fight them. Notice them. Let them pass.
